The Institute was formed in April 1986 mainly to serve the linguistic, cultural and social needs of the Tamil community in the London Borough of Kingston upon Thames and its neighbourhood. The main aim was to teach language and culture to the children who are born here to enable them to learn and preserve the rich heritage of Tamils. The change in needs and demand due to the increase in Tamil population made it necessary to expand its activities further to accommodate the wider community.
